Compline by Candlelight during Holy Week 2019

“Compline” means “completion” and it was, and is still, the last service of the day in monasteries, completing the day’s worship. We use a modern form of this ancient service of prayers, psalms, Bible readings and silence.

It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before rest at the end of the day. It is most effective when the ending is indeed an ending, without additions, conversation or noise; with those present departing in silence.

Compline, during Holy Week, will be led by Revd Barbara Wheatley: it will last for 20 minutes or so and contains within it a time of prayerand reflection.

Those who attend Compline often find it to be a time to wind down; a time to quietly come into the presence of God.
